I thought I would continue with sweets theme and show off some sorbet colors. Soft, pretty and little retro. (Talking of sweets,Troy and I have in a root beer float kick this week.) I love this nostalgic look!

Like I said I love surprises. One of my Christmas gifts this year was one of Troy’s old gym bags wrapped up with a “ransom” note inside. It stated that sometime soon I would be “kidnapped” for an overnight date. (How exciting, we hadn’t had an overnight date since Emma has been with us, over 9 months ago.) The note said I had to pack a bag and be ready to go, when I least expect it, I would be surprised!!

As the week went on Wed. came around and Troy planned a sleepover for Emma with Lindsey, and I was “kidnapped”! We had dinner at the Garden’s of Avila and then Troy took me to Montana de Oro ( the beach where we were engaged 6 years ago) and we stayed in our camper. He packed firewood, chairs, breakfast etc. etc. I was so relaxing, and quiet! Mostly it was just wonderful to sleep in!!!

After such a great surprise, I felt so refreshed and relaxed. I high recommend getting away, if only for an overnight! We spend the rest of the week enjoying dear friends and a fun New Years Eve with almost more kids than adults! (You can enjoy them here, here & here!!)

All week long Troy kept talking about going to brunch on New Years.. something we never seem to do with a toddler that takes an AM nap. He also was super helpful in cleaning the house and doing load after load of laundry. I dislike being the center of attention and I was looking forward to a quiet birthday at home doing absolutely nothing!!

On New Year’s Day (my b-day which I happen to share with Elin Nordegren…. Tiger Wood’s wife. FYI- I’m having a much better year!) we were on our way to McLintocks for breakfast when Jim (a long time friend of ours) called because he locked his keys in his car at the airport. I wasn’t at all surprised and told him we’d come pick him up on our way to breakfast. (Jim is a pilot here.) When we arrived this is what a saw…..

a plane… well duh.. I’m at the airport. But Troy told me we weren’t going to breakfast in SLO, we were flying somewhere??? How, when, where.. I hadn’t packed anything??? Next thing I know the “boys” move over Emma’s car seat, Troy has all these bags packed and we’re suddenly flying north. At first I thought we were going to Santa Barbara, but after 45 mins flying North, I realized we were going to Sacramento! It was so luxurious to jump on a private plane and suddenly a little over an hour later be on the other side of the state!!

Emma did so well on the flight. We were greeted on the ground by Steve & Melissa:-) (Melissa and I have celebrated almost every New Years together since we were in 7th grade, that’s 16 years!!) I knew that Ryan & Sandy (old college friends) were saying with Steve and Melissa, but I didn’t know that Troy had also planned a surprise 30th Birthday party for me, with college friends Nikki & Zana and their families and my parents and younger brother!!

What a great husband! All week, while he was doing laundry he was secretly packing for us for this trip!!

Jimmy, Troy, me and Emma leaving the airport in Steve and Melissa’s new van!!

Kadence and Emma playing above. I’m sad we missed a shot of Emma, Kadence and Jake! It was so special to have a house full of friends. Little did I know Troy had packed for the three of us, and we were able to spend almost 2 full days there! The sweetest things in life are definitely the loved ones we share this journey with. I’m so grateful for all the friends and family both in SLO and Sac that helped Troy pull this off. You’re the most amazing people I know!!!

I don’t know about you, but I love surprises. I guess I should say I love “happy surprises”, an ordinary day that suddenly becomes special. These days when I’m not letterpress printing, life involves lots of laundry, cleaning and generally trying to corral/ stop toys from over running our house. In the middle of daily chores this past week I suddenly found myself on a great adventure, in which packing was not required. No, this wasn’t a great book that swept me away, or an enthralling move, but one amazing husband. Find out more tomorrow.. (and no we didn’t go to Venice.. but I was reminded of the sweet time we had in Italy a few years ago.)
